The following suggestion can be followed in trying to remove spots from carpet. While we can’t guarantee you professional results, we can at least try to guide your efforts.
NEVER RUB! Always blot. Rubbing can distort the fiber and cannot be undone.
Always work within the boundary of the spot from the outside in towards the center. This will prevent the spot from spreading.
Work a little at a time. You can always go back and do more, but you cannot undo what you have already done.
On solid material that have fallen, such as ice cream, scrape up as much of the spill as possible using the edge of a blunt knife.
Test your spotting solution on an inconspicuous area for color fastness.
After spotting, leave a dry cloth on top of the area. Put a weight on it to keep it flat. Some of the remaining staining material will wick up into the cloth as it dries.
Be careful using solvents for spotting. Too much solvent can loosen the carpet by affecting the latex that holds the backing in place.
DO NOT over wet wool carpet. Wool can turn brown if it takes to long to dry.
